SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word women's golf team had a conference-leading three student-athletes named to the 2023 Southland All-Academic teams. Alex Giles and Ellen Nicholas were named to the first team, while, teammate, Lily Hirst earned second-team honors.
In her final season as a Cardinal, Giles was named to the first team after a stellar year in the classroom and on the course. The senior from Bristol, England, held a 3.07 GPA while competing in all nine competitions this past season. Giles had three top-ten finishes, including two first-place finishes. After a first-place finish in the Southland Conference Tournament, Giles earned a spot to compete in the NCAA San Antonio Regionals.
The 2022 Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year, Ellen Nicholas, was named to the first team. The senior majoring in Business Administration held a 3.41 GPA this past semester, competing in all nine competitions and finishing with four top fifteen finishes.
Junior Lily Hirst was named to the second team after maintaining a 3.76 GPA this past semester. The Psychology major also competed in all nine competitions and recorded three top-ten finishes this past season.
