Baseball Run Rules ULM to Clinch Series Win

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) 14-4 in eight innings at Sullivan field, sponsored by H-E-B to take a 2-0 series lead on Saturday afternoon. 

Offensively the Cardinals were led by Grant Randall and Jared Rhodes who finished with three hits. Jimmy De Leon led the team in RBI's with six and five Cardinals finished with two hits; Ehrhardt, Calabrese, De Leon, Carr, and Crotte

The Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of two throwing errors to take a 1-0 lead. 

The Warhawks responded in the top of the second with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. 

Cameron Crotte picked up right where he left off, drilling an RBI double into the gap in the third to give the Cardinals the lead back, 2-1.

The Warhawks would tie things up again, at 2-2 in the top of the fourth with an RBI double. The Cardinals broke the game open later in the inning, driving in five runs to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Wilson Ehrhardt got things started with an RBI single through the right side of the infield, and Jimmy De Leon drove in four with a grand slam over the left field wall. 

ULM got one run back in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 7-3.

The Cardinals added one in the bottom of the sixth behind another RBI from De Leon, making the score to 8-3. 

The Warhawks drove in one on a solo shot in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 8-4. 

Wilson Ehrhardt sent a two-run home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the seventh to extend the Cardinals lead to 10-4. 

The Cardinals drove in four runs in the bottom of the eighth to end the game early. Grant Randall got things started with an RBI triple to center field. Randall later scored on a bases loaded walk. De Leon picked up his sixth RBI on an infield single, and a bases loaded HBP drove in the game's final run.
