SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team had a conference-leading three student-athletes named to the 2023 Southland All-Academic teams.
Brandon Swaby was named to the first team, while his teammates Ben Griscti and
Josh Morgan earned second-team status.
In his final season as a Cardinal, Swaby was named to the first team for the second year in a row. The redshirt senior, pursuing his master's in communication arts, held a 3.57 GPA this year while averaging 7.2 points and more than one steal per game, which helped UIW set a program record in steals with 259.
The 2022 Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year,
Josh Morgan, was named to the second team. The junior, majoring in criminal justice, averaged seven points and just over two rebounds and had a 3.58 GPA. His teammate Ben Griscti made the all-academic team for the first time in his career. Griscti is majoring in mechanical engineering and has a 3.53 GPA. The big man averaged 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game this season.
