Women’s Basketball Picks up Road Win at UNO

NEW ORLEANS – A 3-pointer from Jorja Elliott sealed the 50-45 victory for the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team over the University of New Orleans on Saturday afternoon.

Myra Bell led the team with 13 points while Elliott (11) and Aliyah Collins (10) came off the bench hot for the Cardinals. Destiny Terrell pulled down 11 rebounds on the day and Nina De Leon Negron added four assists.

It was another low-scoring start for the Cardinals as the first field goal of the game came with 3:30 left in the first quarter from the Privateers (3-2). Previously, Chloe Storer sunk two free throws and the Privateers made a free throw of their own to start the game, 2-1. The Cardinals and Privateers finished the quarter with seven turnovers each and a score of 8-7, UIW.

The two teams came alive in the second, with UIW jumping ahead to a six-point lead (20-14). UNO quickly battled back to cut the score to one at the end of the half (20-19).  Two ties came in the third quarter at 31 and 33 points, but the Cardinals scrambled at the end of the quarter, finding Storer for a jumper to take a 35-33 edge.

With 30 seconds left in the game, a Privateer 3-pointer cut UIW's lead to 47-45, but Collins found Elliott for a 3-pointer to seal the 50-45 victory.
