CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team travels down to Corpus Christi for the 2023 Kleberg Bank College Classic beginning on Friday, Feb. 24, and running through Sunday, Feb. 26. The tournament features the Cardinals, Houston, Utah and the Islanders at Whataburger Field.

• Outfielder Wilson Ehrhardt has four hits, one home run, one double, and two RBI's this season to lead the team, batting .364. Utility Alec Carr is another key player for the Cardinals, bringing in two runners on four hits to include one triple and one home run.
• Isaiah Zavala is 1-0 this season after pitching a terrific game two against SIUE, striking out 11 batters and only allowing one hit through the first five innings.
• In a three-game series against SIUE opening weekend, UIW defeated the Cougars 5-1 on Saturday as SIUE took the series, 2-1. After narrowly falling to Tarleton State University on Tuesday, the Cardinals are 1-3 to start the season.

 
 
SCOUTING THE ISLANDERS

• Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is 2-2 so far this season, with two wins over UT Arlington while dropping a midweek matchup at Texas (12-2).
• After finishing 27-28 last season, the Islanders were picked to finish seventh in the SLC Preseason Poll. Tre Jones, Brendan Ryan, Zach Garcia, and Josh Caraway were all named to the Southland All-Conference Preseason Teams.
• Jake Johnson is batting .455 with three runs, five hits, and two doubles. Caraway and Jones lead the team in RBI's with four apiece. Hayden Thomas is 1-0 this season, striking out seven batters while allowing five hits through 19 at-bats.

 
SCOUTING THE UTES

• Utah picked up an 11-9 victory over San Francisco on opening day for its only win this season.
• Catcher and infielder, Davis Cop was named to the Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference Team.
• Elijha Hammill is batting .357 with four runs, five hits, one triple, one home run, and four RBI's. On the mound, Micah Ashman is 2-0 this season with a 3.38 ERA after pitching five innings while striking out six batters and allowing three runs.

 
SCOUTING THE COUGARS

• The University of Houston is 1-3, taking home one win against Cal, while falling to UTSA on Wednesday (12-2).
• The Cougars were picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Catcher Anthony Tulimero, shortstop Ian McMillan and third baseman Zach Arnold were selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
• With five hits, one run, and one RBI, Alex Lopez is batting .417 for the Cougars. Kyle Lacalameto has spent the most time on the mound for UH, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out five batters.
