SAN ANTONIO – On opening day at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) 2-0.
Kayden Cassidy started on the mound for the Cardinals until
Luis Rodriguez came into the game in the fifth inning.
Alec Carr went 2-3 on the day and was walked once.
Hernan Yanez,
Matt Crump, and
Grant Randall each recorded one hit.
A slow start to the day as SIUE scored first, plating a runner in the fourth and in the fifth inning (2-0).
Carr tripled out to center field to start the sixth with no outs, but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize with a score.
In the eighth, the Cardinals found themselves in scoring position once more with runners on second and third, however, an untimely double play ruled a no-score and brought the Cougars back out to bat and ultimately win the game.
