AUSTIN – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell 88-56 in it's first game of the season in against the University of Texas.
In his first game as a Cardinal
Sky Wicks recorded a double-double, leading all players in scoring with 26 points and rebounds with 11.
The Cardinals were in it early, going back and forth with the horns and taking a 6-5 lead from back-to-back buckets from
Sky Wicks. The remainder of the first half was a struggle for the UIW, as the Cards were called for 11 fouls in the half compared to only five called on Texas. UIW was active on the boards grabbing 20 rebounds, five of which were on the offensive end. The score was 48-17 at the break.
In the second half the Cardinals showed their fight. Not only did UIW continue to battle on the boards, but they also doubled their field goal percentage, shooting 40 percent in the half. They were led by 18 points and five rebounds from Wicks.
After 40 minutes of basketball, the final score was 88-56.
