Women’s Soccer Comes from Behind to Win First Conference Game

SAN ANTONIO –  The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team picked up its first conference win of the season, coming back from behind to beat Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, 3-1, at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium. The win was first-year head coach Jake Plant's first SLC win.

The Cardinals took a deficit into halftime down 1-0 after the Islanders converted on a corner kick in the 36th minute.

Down one in the 54th minute, Payton Adams tied the game up with a jaw-dropping shot from 114 feet out.

The goal was the spark the Cardinals needed as the team would go on to score two more goals to put the game out of reach for the Islanders. In the 69th minute, Alex Knutson put a header in the back of the net for the winning goal, and Melissa Bailey scored the dagger in the 70th minute, bringing the score to 3-1.

Goalkeeper Erica Defferding picked up the win finishing with five saves and allowing just one goal in the win.
