Football Heads to the University of Nevada

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team is set to travel to Reno, Nevada for a non-conference matchup against The University of Nevada, Reno on Saturday, September 10, at 4:30 p.m. CT. This is the first time in program history these two teams have faced each other.
 
UIW
  • Coming off a dominating 64-29 victory over No. 14 Southern Illinois University, the Cardinals are now sitting at No. 8 in the NCAA FCS Top 25 rankings. This is the highest-ranking UIW football has ever seen. With this win, head coach G.J. Kinne secured his first win as a collegiate head coach.
  • In the home-opener, the Cardinals racked up 550 yards of total offense.
  • UIW is tied for first in the Southland Conference after going 1-0.
  • The Cardinals were named FCS Stats Perform Team of the Week and quarterback, Lindsey Scott Jr. received an honorable mention for National Player of the Week.
 
SCOUTING THE WOLF PACK
  • Nevada (2-0) looks to stay undefeated after this weekend with wins over New Mexico State (23-12) and Texas State (38-14). They currently sit at No. 1 in the Mountain West Standings.
  • Defensive back, Bentlee Sanders claimed the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honor following two interceptions and a forced fumble. Sanders also contributed five tackles.
  • Toa Taua (2) and Devonte Lee (3) have combined for five of Nevada's touchdowns this season.
  • Defensively, The Wolf Pack is second in the country with nine turnovers including six interceptions and three fumble recoveries. In the red zone, Nevada has held its opponents to just three scores in five red-zone chances.
 
UIW PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • In his first game as a Cardinal, Scott Jr. went 17-25 off 391 yards and six touchdowns. His own, seven-yard rushing touchdown capped off his seven-touchdown night.
  • Taylor Grimes recorded two touchdowns in eight minutes to lift the Cardinals to a 16-0 advantage early in the first quarter. His second touchdown of the night solidified his name in UIW's career record book as the all-time leader in career receiving touchdowns after playing one full season with the Cardinals.
  • Kelechi Anyalebechi finished with 12 solo tackles while Kaleb Culp completed 11 total tackles. Anyalebechi and Culp sit at number one and two in the SLC standings.
  • Chris Whittaker notched two sacks against SIU.
  • Carson Mohr went 8-8 on the night for PATs to lead the conference.
