NEW ORLEANS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team matched up against the University of New Orleans (UNO) in the series opener Friday night at Maestri Field. The Privateers defeated the Cardinals, 11-3.
UNO added one to the board in the bottom of the second, then Jimmy De Leon scored off a wild pitch in the third to tie the game up, 1-1.
In the top of the fourth, the Privateer pitching staff walked Alec Carr, then Nixon Brannan stepped up to the plate and smacked an RBI double to left center, handing the Cardinals a one-run lead (2-1).
UNO heated up in the seventh frame, scoring seven runs to take an 8-2 advantage.
Roberto Gonzalez found home plate off a sacrifice fly from Brannan in the eighth, but UNO tacked on three more runs to win the game, 11-3.

Game two's first pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 7, at Maestri Field.
