SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 5-3, to Nicholls State University on Saturday night at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B to tie up the series, 1-1.
Nicholls tacked on a run in the top of the second following a home run.
Roberto Gonzalez, then got the Cardinals' bats swinging with a triple in the bottom of the second. Gonzalez snuck home off a ground out to tie the game, 1-1.
With a Colonel on third,
Kayden Cassidy struck out two batters swinging in the third to head into the middle of the inning. Gonzalez smacked an RBI single down right field to plate
Alec Carr and take a 2-1 advantage. Next at bat, an RBI single from
Hernan Yanez brought
Grant Smith home (3-1).
A three-RBI homer in the fourth put the Colonels back on top (4-3). Then, another home run in the sixth brought the score to 5-3 as Nicholls took the game.
