SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), 13-8, on Tuesday night for its fourth consecutive win at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
 
Taylor Darden finished the night with four hits and three RBIs to lead the Cardinals.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, UIW came back from a four-run deficit to tie the game at 7-7. With Roberto Gonzalez on first base, Alec Carr hit an RBI single to right center (7-4). A hit from Nixon Brannan put runners on first and third. Darden doubled to the left field line, bringing home Carr; then a two RBI single from Reid Hensley knotted the score at seven.
 
Ridge Rogers kicked off the sixth frame scoring off a Vaquero error. Hernan Yanez smacked an RBI double to left field and then scored on UTRGV's defensive mistakes as the Cardinals jumped to a 10-7 edge.
 
UIW tacked on three more runs in the seventh off RBIs from Grant Smith, Gonzalez and Carr. UTRGV added one more run to the board, but UIW took the game, 13-8.
