SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team kicks off a busy week with two midweek games at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B. The Cardinals face The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) on Tuesday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m. CT and Columbia University on Wednesday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. On Friday, March 18, UIW heads to Austin to take on No. 2 University of Texas (UT) for a three-game series that continues through Sunday, March 20.
UIW
- The Cardinals swept University of Texas at Arlington to improve their record to 7-5 on the season.
- Ridge Rogers is batting .386 with eight runs and 17 hits, including five doubles and one home run.
- Michael Garza has pitched 19 innings for UIW, allowing just four earned runs.
UTRGV
- The Vaqueros are coming off a 2-1 series win over Abilene Christian University, and now sit at an 11-5 overall record.
- Brandon Pimental leads UTRGV with 21 hits and 25 runs for a .417 average.
- Colten Davis is 3-0 on the season with 24 innings pitched, allowing 17 hits and five runs.
COLUMBIA
- The Lions are 4-6 on the season, following a 2-1 loss to Baylor.
- Joshua Solomon is batting .303 off five hits and has 10 runs.
- Billy Black and Sean Higgins have each pitched 14 innings for Columbia and are both 3-3.
UT
- The Longhorns are coming off losses from Texas State and South Carolina to bring their record to 13-4.
- Murphy Stehly leads UT with 10 hits and 26 runs for a .426 batting average.
- Pete Hansen and Tristan Stevens have pitched 23 innings for the team with three wins each.
