Football Hosts HCU for Homecoming

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team is set to host Houston Christian University (HCU) in the final regular season home game for the Cardinals on Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. This game will be a celebration of not only Homecoming but also Senior Day.

UIW moved up in the rankings to No. 7 in the Stats Perform FCS Poll. and No. 8 in the AFCA Coaches Poll.
The Cardinals lead the Southland Conference with 32 total sacks. Chris Whittaker (7.5), Steven Parker (6), Cameron Preston (5.5) and Brandon Richard (3.5) are all in the top 10 for total sacks in the conference.
The UIW offense leads the conference and the nation in scoring with 443 points this season, over 150 more points than any other team in the Southland.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

HCU was picked to finish eighth in the 2022 Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
The Huskies have started the season 2-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play, coming off a 52-28 loss to UT Martin.
HCU has the third-ranked passing offense in the Southland averaging 242 yards a game.
The Huskies are second in the conference with nine fumble recoveries this season.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET

The Cardinals have won all seven of their games against the Huskies.

Last season UIW defeated HCU by a score of 55-14.

UIW PLAYERS TO WATCH

Kelechi Anyalebechi recorded a season-high 15 tackles last week against the Lions, making him third in the conference for total tackles this season.
Marcus Cooper was named Southland Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a career-high three touchdowns last week against Texas A&M-Commerce.
Lindsey Scott Jr. has recorded 38 passing touchdowns this season which is more than double the second-ranked QB in the conference.
