Men’s Basketball Falls in Close Game Against Valparaiso

Valparaiso, Ind. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team was defeated in a close game against Valparaiso University on Saturday night, 68-64.

The first half of the game was back and forth with the lead changing several times, but the Cardinals 3-point shooting kept them in the game. Four different student-athletes knocked down shots from behind the arch as five of UIW's 10 made field goals in the half were three-pointers. Despite the hot shooting start the Cardinals trailed at the break 26-29.

The script was flipped in the second half as UIW began to force the ball down low. The Cardinals scored 10 of their first 13 points in the paint and regained the lead, 39-37. Both teams battled but Valpo was able to retake a six-point lead until Charlie Yoder scored seven straight points to cut the lead to three (58-60).

With less than 30 seconds left in the game UIW hit two 3-pointers keeping them within reach. However, they couldn't stop Valpo from scoring on the other end and ultimately fell by a final score of 68-64.

The team will return to San Antonio for a local matchup against Our Lady of the Lake University Tuesday in the McDermott Center at 6:30 p.m. and will stay in town through Thanksgiving break with the MTE Tournament at UTSA over the weekend.
