SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incantate Word men's basketball team defeated the Texas Lutheran University (TLU) Bulldogs,84-47, for the first win of the season on Tuesday night at the McDermott Center. 

Charlie Yoder led the way for the Cardinals scoring 24 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Six different student-athletes recorded a steal, totaling 13 for UIW in the dominant win. 
 

The Cardinals got out to a fast start behind Yoder's nine straight points to give UIW a 9-0 lead. TLU responded with two three-pointers keeping the game close. However, the Cardinals active hands on defense kept the bulldogs from scoring for over three minutes early in the game, helping them extend the lead to 21-8. UIW kept the pressure on throughout the first half and went into the locker room with six steals and a 14-point lead (39-25).

The second half started similar to the first with UIW scoring 11 unanswered points pushing the lead to 50-25. The Cardinals continued to stifle the Bulldog offense as they started 0-6 from behind the arch even further extending their lead to nearly 30 points (64-35). UIW finished well taking the game by a final score of 84-47.

The Cardinals will travel to Indiana for their next game against Valparaiso this Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.
