Following a fourth-place finish last season, the women's team returns many key student-athletes such as Southland Conference 2021 Freshman of the Year Ozlynn Urias and SLC third team honoree Maryn DeMaio. Freshman Joy Gill will look to make a big impact for the Cardinals. In her first collegiate meet she broke UIW's 4k record with a time of 13:36. Gill has been named Southland Conference Athlete of the Week twice along with setting the school record in the 6k twice with a times of 20:49 and later 20:36. As a team the women have taken first overall in two of their meets and placed second at the UIW Invitational.

The men have also had a lot of team success this season. Winning three of the four meets they have competed in and placing 9th our of 40 team at the Arturo Barrios Invitational. In 2021 the men placed second as Griffin Neal was named to the SLC second team and Christopher Daniels secured a spot on the third team. This season, Griffin placed first overall in the Cardinals' first race of the season, the UIW Twilight. Daniels won his first collegiate win at the SLC Championship Preview Meet in Louisiana and was named SLC Athlete of the Week.
