Football Grabs Tenth Straight Win at Benson Stadium

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word football team secured its tenth straight win at Tom & Gayle Benson Stadium after defeating the Faulkner Eagles 70-0 Saturday afternoon.

Kole Wilson had 179 punt return yards and is now UIW's leader in punt return yards for a single game, season, and career. Lindsey Scott Jr. completed 12 of 14 passes for 302 yards with five touchdowns in the little over one quarter he played.

The Cardinals started off the first quarter playing well in all three phases of the game. Scott led the offense with 255 passing yards and four total passing touchdowns to four different receivers. On special teams, Kole Wilson had 86 punt return yards and one for a touchdown. The defense held Faulkner to 55 total yards and zero points in the first quarter as UIW held the lead, 35-0.

The second quarter was more of the same, but
Steven Duncan took over at quarterback for UIW, rushing for a touchdown on his first series. After a second punt return for a touchdown by Kole Wilson the Cardinals pushed their lead to 56-0 heading into halftime.

Coming out of the half the Cardinals drove 65 yards in 1:02 minutes for Duncan's second rushing touchdown of the game.

The Eagles forced UIW to punt on their next three drives, but with under a minute left in the game
Luke Gombert found Jalen Smothers across the middle for a 24-yard touchdown on their final drive of the game.

The Cardinals ended up taking the game by a final score of 70-0 over the Eagles, setting a record for most points scored in a game by UIW.

UIW returns to Southland Conference play next week as the Cardinals travel to Texas A&M - Commerce to take on the Lions.
