SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team hosted its second Southland Conference (SLC) matchup, and its first home SLC contest, of the season against Houston Baptist University on Thursday night. The Cardinals lost 62-57.
Jaaucklyn Moore finished with a game-high 19 points and
Destiny Terrell added 11.
Terrell scored the first bucket of the game and led the Cardinals in the frame with seven points. UIW forced HBU into seven turnovers to take the quarter, 17-7. The Cardinals carried the momentum into the second as they finished the first half with a 30-22 advantage.
The Huskies came within one point with five minutes left in the third (37-36), but
Tiana Gardner found Moore cutting to the basket to extend the lead to three (39-36). On a last second out of bounds play, the Huskies tied the game up, 39-39. UIW immediately pushed it up to Gardner for a layup to take back the advantage, but the Huskies tied the game (41-41) once more to end the third quarter.
The Cardinals reclaimed the lead following a floater from Terrell (43-41).
Jaaucklyn Moore scored on three straight possessions to make it a five-point game (50-45). The Huskies leaked out for a fastbreak layup, then forced a Cardinal turnover and secured another layup to tie the game up, 52-52, with four minutes left. The Huskies went on a six-point run late in the contest to take a 58-52 advantage and ultimately win, 62-57.

The Cardinals host McNeese State University on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. CT at the McDermott Center.
