Men’s Basketball Hosts HBU and McNeese

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team hosts Houston Baptist University (HBU) for its first home Southland Conference (SLC) game of the 2021-22 season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT, following the women's basketball game against the Huskies. The Cardinals then host McNeese State University on Saturday, Jan. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. following the women's matchup.

LAST TIME THEY MET
The Cardinals and Huskies last faced off during the inaugural Southland Conference Basketball Tip-off Event. UIW defeated HBU, 60-50, in its final game of the tournament. Josh Morgan was named the Southland Conference Player of the Game following his 22-point performance.
 
This is the first matchup for UIW and McNeese in the 2021-22 season. They last faced Jan. 13, 2021, when the Cardinals secured the home victory, 83-61.
 
UIW
  • The Cardinals are looking for their first SLC victory following a tough loss against the Islanders of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in their first SLC game of the season.
  • UIW leads the SLC at the free throw line, averaging 75.6 percent.
  • The Cardinals also sit third in the league for 3-pointers, averaging 34.8 percent behind the arc.
 
HBU
  • The Huskies are coming off a 78-75 loss against the Cowboys of McNeese on Saturday, Jan. 15.
  • HBU ranks third in the SLC for rebounds per game, averaging 37 rebounds.
  • HBU is 0-5 on the road and looks for its first road win this season when it travels to the McDermott Center.
 
MSU
  • The Cowboys are coming off a 78-75 nail-biter win against HBU.
  • MSU ranks first in the SLC for rebounds per game, averaging 40.8, and steals per game, averaging 9.61.
  • With an 0-8 road record, MSU looks for its first road win of the season.
  • The Cowboys travel to TAMUCC on Thursday, Jan. 20, before making their way to the McDermott Center on Saturday, Jan. 22.
 
UIW PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • Glasper leads the Cardinal offense with 251 points this season. He has seven 20-plus point performances.
  • Lutz leads the Cardinals at the charity line with 61 free throws made, averaging 85.9 percent. He also has a team-best 76 assists.
  • Johnny Hughes III leads UIW at the boards with 84 total rebounds this season.
  • Benjamin Griscti has a team high in 3-pointers made with 39.
