CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC), 80-64, on Saturday afternoon in its opening game of Southland Conference play.
RJ Glasper led the Cardinal offense with his sixth 20-point performance, registering a season-high 28 points.
The Islanders came out with a fast-pace offensive scheme to take an early 8-1 lead on the Cardinals, but UIW's offense heated up as Godsgift "GG" Ezedinma and Glasper knocked down back-to-back treys to bring the Cardinals within one (8-7).
Brandon Swaby entered the game and quickly hit two consecutive 3-pointers of his own to give the Cardinals a 16-14 advantage. UIW tied the game once more, 19-19, after another Glasper three before TAMUCC used its own scoring run to go up heading into the break (32-24).
TAMUCC's offense was strong in the second half as the Islanders maintained their lead.
Johnny Hughes III scored two jumpers, while Yoder and Glasper knocked down a pair from behind the charity line, but the Islanders' offense kept the advantage throughout the half and secured the victory, 80-64.
