SAN ANTONIO ‑ The University of the Incarnate Word women's volleyball team hosted their first Southland Conference game of the season against Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The Cardinals fell 3-0 to the Islanders through three sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-21).

The Cardinals came out on a 9-1 run early in the first set to take their largest lead of the game over TAMU-CC, 14-10. The Islanders came back to tie the game 21-21 and win the set 25-23.

In set two, TAMU-CC went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-8 lead over UIW.
Chase Jackson stopped the run with a kill and the Cardinals picked up two more points off an Islander service error and block from Jackson and
Jacqueline Arrington. The Islanders pulled ahead once again with a late four-point run to take the set 25-13.

The third and final set was neck and neck to start as the Cardinals and Islanders tied it up 7-7. TAMU-CC went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 13-7. UIW responded scoring eight of the next 11 points to come within one point of the Islanders. With TAMU-CC up 16-15, the Islanders go on a five-point run and take the final set 25-21.

Allison Palmi led the Cardinals with 12 kills,
Natalie Martin finished with 26 assists and
Zoe Menendez had 12 digs followed by
Macy Sumrall with nine.

The Cardinals host Southland Conference foe, Northwestern State on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
