AUSTIN – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team makes its second trip to No. 3 Texas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday night, April 27. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. 

The Cardinals look to turn the corner of a three-game slide after its weekend series at Abilene Christian. The Longhorns took two of three games at No. 24 Oklahoma State last weekend.

  UIW QUICK HITS  

• UIW (14-22, 10-18 SLC) is hitting a combined .258 batting average with Thomas leading the way with a .312 average, nine doubles and four triples.
• Thomas is quickly moving up in the program record book as he currently sits fifth in walks (100), doubles (47) and home runs (25), sixth in games played (195) and RBIs (153), seventh in most at-bats (683) and total bases (338) and ninth in hits (204). 
• Flores ranks third in most chances (1,804) and can move into second with just three more outs. He is also second in putouts (983) and double plays turned (86). 
• After a three home run weekend, Smith took the team lead with seven home runs and tied Thomas for a team-leading 40 hits, and 30 RBIs this season. 
• Ron Brown holds the Southland Conference's second-best slugging percentage (.651) with 22 hits, four doubles and five home runs this season.
• UIW's pitching holds a 6.62 ERA and a .297 opponent batting average. 
• Michael McElmeel leads the staff with a 3.68 ERA in 22 innings of work with 18 strikeouts this season.
• Michael Garza leads the team with 46 1/3 innings pitched and 48 strikeouts. 

HISTORY vs. No. 3 Texas  
UIW is 1-4 all-time against Texas. The Longhorns won 10-1 earlier this season. The Cardinals are searching for their first win in Austin in the head-to-head series.  

SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS  

• Texas (33-9, 12-3 Big12) is among the nation's top teams in doubles (5th, 84) and runs scored (8th, 292). 
• The Longhorns have a combined .281 batting average and 44 home runs on the season. 
• Ivan Melendez leads a quartet of hitters with a batting average above .300. Melendez holds a .368 average along with Mitchell Daly (.347), Zach Zubia (.315) and Douglass Hodo III (.302). 
• The Longhorns hold the Big 12 Conference's best slugging percentage (.424) and second in runs scored (292) and hits (333).  
• UT pitching holds the sixth-best ERA mark with a 2.89 coming into the matchup. 
• The Longhorns' pitching is holding opponents to a .219 batting average and giving up a Big 12 Conference-low 132 runs and just eight home runs.
