ABILENE, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 8-3, in the final game of the series at Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon, April 25 at Crutcher Scott Field.
The Wildcats got out to a hot start with a run in the first inning and three in the second for a quick 4-0 lead before the Cardinals got on the board with three runs in the fourth inning.
Wilson Ehrhard ripped an RBI double to score Lee Thomas who singled earlier in the fourth inning. Jordan McFarland continued the inning with a walk for Ron Brown to rip a two-RBI double down the left field line to cut into the Wildcat lead, 4-3.
ACU responded with a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning, two in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth for an 8-3 lead.
UIW got one back in the top of the ninth as Landon Etzel started the inning with a pinch-hit walk and Braxton Gerek singled to right. With runners on the corner, Ryan Flores hit a sac fly to right field that scored Etzel but it was all the Cardinals could muster in the final at-bats as ACU came away with the 8-4 win.
