SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team hits the road for its next 10 games with four-game Southland Conference series' against Abilene Christian and Nicholls and two non-conference games at Texas and TCU.  

The Cardinals begin their road quest at ACU's Crutcher Scott Field on Friday, April 23 with first pitch set at 6:05 p.m.  

UIW is just 3-12 on the road this season but are looking to turn in a solid trip to make a late postseason push for the Southland Conference Tournament.

UIW QUICK HITS  

• UIW placed three student-athletes on the Southland Conference Preseason All-Conference teams. Ryan Flores earned first-team honors for the second year in a row, while Lee Thomas and Grant Smith were selected for the second team.  
• Thomas leads the Southland Conference with five triples this season. He is tied for 10th with 10 home runs and nine doubles.  
• The Cardinals are hitting .255 as a team. Taylor Darden leads the red and black with a .316 batting average as Thomas (.315), Smith (.286) Ridge Rogers (.282), Flores (.267) and Wilson Ehrhardt (.256) are all above a .250 BA.  
• UIW pitching holds a combined 6.46 ERA and 249 strikeouts, holding opponents to a .249 batting average.  
• Two pitchers have an ERA at or under 3.00 in Larry Westall (2.45) and Michael McElmeel (3.00).  
• Michael Garza currently leads the team in innings pitched (43.0) and strikeouts (48). Garza needs just two more to reach 50 on the season.   

HISTORY vs. ACU  
UIW is 16-17 all-time against ACU. The Wildcats claimed the 2019 series winning 2-of-3, the Cardinals swept the prior meeting in 2018.  

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS  

• ACU (19-16, 10-10 SLC) enters the weekend coming off a three-game series at No. 3 Texas where the Longhorns swept the Wildcats.  
• The Wildcats are one of the teams the Cardinals are hunting down for a postseason spot. ACU is currently the seventh-ranked team in the league.  
• ACU is hitting a combined .285 on the season with four batters above .300 in Mitchell Dickerson (.367), Colton Eager (.348), Grayson Tatrow (.316) and Tommy Cruz (.315).  
• The Wildcats hold the conference's best slugging percentage (.424) and second in runs scored (252) and hits (333).  
• The Wildcats have a combined 5.97 ERA and an opponent batting average of .268.  
• Genner Cervantes and Spencer Chirpich lead the Wildcats with nine starts each. Cervantes is 5-1 and Chirpich is 3-3 on the year.  
• Tyler Morgan (45), Max Huffington (43) and Tanner Riley (40) all have 40 or more strikeouts this season.

The Cardinals and Wildcats continue the series with a double-header on Saturday and one game Sunday before UIW heads to Austin to take on the No. 3 Longhorns Tuesday night.
