SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team opens Southland Conference play at the McDermott Center when it hosts Abilene Christian at home on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. CT. 
 
The Cardinals remain at home against the Ladyjacks of SFA on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m. CT.

CARDINAL QUICK FACTS 

• The Cardinals are led by head coach Samantha Dabbs Thomas who is in her third season at the helm. 
• The roster features five returners from the 2019 Fall season and 11 new faces. The young squad is 70% underclassmen, with 7 freshman and 5 sophomores.  
• Junior Bethany Clapp and freshman Britney Ong have earned honorable mention in Southland Conference weekly awards twice this season for their performances in nonconference matches against Prairie View A&M and UTSA. 
• UIW is 0-2 on the season after hard-fought matches that came down to the fifth set on the road against PVAMU and UTSA.  

 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS 

• The series between UIW and ACU is tied, 9-9, dating back to 2009, prior to the Cardinals joining the Southland Conference.  
• UIW won its last matchup against ACU during the 2019 season in five sets (3-2) at home on Nov. 7.
• The Wildcats are 1-1 heading into Thursday's match, splitting a series against UT Arlington. Both matches were determined in the fifth set.  
• Offensively, Katelyn Mueller leads the squad with 36 kills in ten sets with a hitting percentage of .127 averaging 3.6 kills per set.  
• Defensively, Mackenzie Harris has notched 38 digs in ten sets and has four service aces on the season. 

 
SCOUTING THE LADYJACKS 

• SFA leads the all-time series against UIW 9-2. The 'Jacks hold a six-game winning streak on the Cardinals. 
• The 'Jacks are 12-4 heading into SLC play having played 16 matches in Fall 2020. The purple and black play at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday before coming to the McDermott Center. 

• Sophomore Payton Cerny leads the squad with 162 kills in 59 sets, averaging 2.75 kills per set at a hitting percentage of .333. 
• Defensively, Madelynn Miller has 277 digs at a rate of 4.69 per set in the back line while Ashley Procious leads the team at the net with 31 blocks (29 ast., 8 solo).
