SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word cross country welcomes Joy Gill to the Cardinal family.
Joy Gill
The Cardinals are ecstatic to announce the joining of San Antonio native, Joy Gill. Gill is a 2021Texas State Champion, the defending Homeschool cross country state champ to be exact. Gill boasts personal records of 17:47 (5K), 11:09 (3200), and 5:13 (1600m) and is strong in a range of middle and long distance events.
"I've known Joy since she was 5 years old when her oldest brother was our top distance runner and school 1500m record holder. I've watched her grow up and now that she is one of the best 5k runners in the entire state I can't be more excited for her to join our family and continue her success at the college level!"
Danielle Salinas
The Cardinals welcome Salinas to the UIW family. Salinas is a District Champion and State Qualifier. Salinas joins the Cardinal family from Mission, Texas where she is a distance runner at Mission Sharyland High School. She is a three-year varsity runner. In 2018, Salinas made 1
st Team All-Country at the Regional Qualifier. In 2019, she made the Area and Regional Qualifier for the 3200 while also being named to 1
st Team All-Country, Honorable Mention All-Region, Honorable Mention All-State and made it to the State Qualifiers. In 2020, Salinas placed 7
th at the UIL 5A Region 4 Championship.
"Danielle has an outstanding championship pedigree that will help her make an immediate impact at UIW as a freshman. She is one of the top runners in the state and ready to make a difference next fall!"
