UIW Hosts Houston Baptist University for their 2021 Homecoming Game

SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word hosts Houston Baptist University on Saturday, October 30 at 3 p.m. in an ESPN+ televised game. UIW welcomes back all alumni to this game to celebrate Homecoming. 
 
ALUMNI EVENTS
  • Enjoy delicious BBQ from Smoke Shack in our large Alumni & Parent Associations tailgate area. Tickets are $15 each and include food and drink. 
  • Alumni will be added to the traditional pre-game Flight of the Cardinal. Walk with pride through our beautiful campus as our Marching Cardinals and UIW Spirit teams lead the way into the Homecoming game. 
  • All former UIW athletes are invited to walk on Benson field during halftime for a special Homecoming recognition. 
 
FOLLOW THE GAME   
THE LAST TIME THEY MET 
  • These two programs last met on October 5, 2019, in a UIW 38-36 victory. 
  • This secured the Cardinals fifth straight win against HBU to remain undefeated against HBU
  • Kevin Brown led the Cardinals in rushing yards, registering 104 total yards 
  • Kelechi Anyalebechi led the Cardinals defense with 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble 
 
UIW 
  • Ranked number 22 by the FCS Stats Perform Football rankings 
  • Is coming off their first conference loss on Saturday against McNeese 
  • UIW ties for the best start to the season in program history, standing at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Southland Conference play
  • The Cardinals are undefeated at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium this season 
  • UIW is also undefeated against the huskies of HBU
  • The Cardinals rank fourth in passing offense for any FCS program
 
HBU 
  • The Huskies are 0-7 overall on the season and 0-3 in conference play 
  • The Huskies are coming off a 44-14 loss against the Colonels of Nicholls 
  • HBU have rushed for 377 yards 
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH 
  • UIW's quarterback, Cameron Ward is ranked fourth in the NCAA for passing yards per game at 2,479 total yards, averaging 354 yards per game and fifth in passing touchdowns for any FCS player with 22. 
  • Ward is two touchdowns away from breaking his own record of 24 touchdowns in a single season. 
  • HBU's true freshman quarterback Orion Olivas is 61-of-122 passing yards for 574 yards and five touchdowns. 
  • UIW's Kevin Brown leads the Cardinals in rushing yards with 469 and seven touchdowns.
  • Xzavier Ford leads HBU in rushing yards with 108
  • UIW's Kelechi Anyalebechi is ranked number eight in NCAA for total tackles for any FCS player with 75 on the season.
  • Rodney Dansby leads HBU's defense with 70 total tackles.
  • UIW's Taylor Grimes is ranked second in NCAA receiving touchdowns for any FCS player with nine touchdowns.
  • Grimes is currently tied for first place in UIW pass reception touchdowns per a single season.
  • Grimes leads the Cardinals with 689 yards.
  • Tyson Thompson leads HBU in receiving yards with 340
