UIW Falls to McNeese in Four Sets

LAKE CHARLES, LA. – University of the Incarnate Word volleyball fell to Lake Charles Louisiana on Saturday, October 23 in four sets, 3-1. This was a close matchup with 32 tied scores and 16 lead changes.
 
Chase Jackson led the Cardinal offense with nine kills on the match. Bethany Clapp, Jacqueline Arrington and Annamarie Alvarez all registered six kills against McNeese. Natalie Martin set up the Cardinal offense with 20 assists. Audrey Patton and Clapp led the Cardinals at the service line both registering two service aces. Natalie Kimmel and Alvarez also tallied a service ace on the day. Patton led the Cardinal defense with 12 digs against the high intensity McNeese offense.
 
"Today was a tough loss but I am really proud of al the girls who came off the bench and stepped up for the team," said Jackson. "We need to learn how to start matches off right and finish when the game is tight. We have all the pieces to be a top three contender in conference and will continue to keep working."  
 
McNeese took the first two sets 26-24 and 25-16 to lead the match 2-0 heading into the third set.
 
The Cardinals answered right back with a 25-22 victory in the third set. Jackson led the Cardinals with five kills. Arrington led at the net with three assist blocks. Patton's two service aces came during this set to lead the Cardinals to victory in the third set. With an 18-18 tied score. The Cardinals went on 5-0 scoring run, consisting of kills by Allison Palmi, Jackson, and blocks by Nailah Landon and Palmi, securing the third set.
 
"Today was another tough match for us," said head coach Samantha Dabbs Thomas. "We struggled offensively early in the match during set one. Thing didn't start clicking until set three for us. I am proud of them for fighting back in set three, but it is not enough. We have to learn how to start, maintain and finish strong."

The Cardinals travel to Stephenville, Texas to take on Tarleton State University on Tuesday, October 26 at 6 p.m.
