UIW Travels to Louisiana for their Second Face Off against McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, LA. – University of the Incarnate Word travels to Lake Charles, Louisiana to go head-to-head with the Cowboys of McNeese on Saturday, October 23 at noon. This will be the second time these two programs will face off this season. 
 
FOLLOW THE GAME   
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
  • In the first meeting this season, the Cardinals secured their first shutout win in Division I program history with a final score of 31-0
  • Cameron Ward passed for 352 yards and two touchdowns
  • Kevin Brown rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown
  • Taylor Grimes also rushed for a touchdown against the Cowboys
  • Trevor Begue had five receptions and completed 80 rushing yards with one touchdown
  • Kelechi Anaylebechi led the Cardinal defense with 10 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one pass break up. 
  • The Cardinal defense held the Cowboys to 0-2 in red-zone conversions
  • The Cardinals special teams was perfect on the day with 4-4 PATs
 
UIW 
  • Is continuing their best start in program history after their 38-21 comeback win against the Colonels of Nicholls
  • This victory improved the Cardinals to 5-1 on the season, remaining undefeated in Southland Conference play (3-0)
  • The Cardinals head to Lake Charles on a five-game winning streak 
  • UIW has moved up in FCS Stats Perform Ranking to number 16  
  • Cameron Ward heads into the game tied with Jon Copeland, at 44, for most career passing touchdowns in UIW program history
 
MSU 
  • Is coming off a 35-17 victory against the Demons of Northwestern State on Saturday, October 16
  • The Cowboys are currently 2-4 overall and 1-2 in Southland Conference play 
  • McNeese is 0-2 at home this season, however this is going to be their homecoming game, so the Cardinal are expecting a high intensity atmosphere 
  • The Cowboys have rushed for 687 total yards, completed 1,196 passing yards with nine touchdowns and have registered six fumbles on the season 
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH 
  • UIW's quarterback, Cameron Ward has completed 159 passes on 254 attempts with three interceptions. Ward has completed 2,024 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. His season long 67-yard pass completion came against Nicholls. 
  • Ward has tied the UIW school record for career touchdown passes with 44. The next passing touchdown Ward completes will make him the leader in program history. 
  • Ward has completed 300+ passing yards in each of the past four games.
  • Ward ranks six in the country for passing yards, fifth for passing touchdowns and fifth for passing yards per game by the NCAA for all FCS quarterbacks. 
  • McNeese's quarter back Cody Orgeron has completed 100 passes on 169 attempts and two interceptions. Orgeron has completed 1,176 passing yards and nine touchdowns on the season.
  • UIW's Taylor Grimes leads the Cardinals with 520-yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Grimes had a season high 182 reception yards, 51-yard reception and four receiving touchdowns against the Colonels of Nicholls
  • Grimes broke the UIW school record for most receiving touchdowns in a single game and now leads UIW with four 
  • Grimes now ranks third for receiving touchdowns in the country by the NCAA for an FCS program 
  • McNeese's Josh Matthews leads the Cowboys with 293 receiving yards and three touchdowns 
  • UIW's Kevin Brown leads the Cardinals in rushing yards with 400 and six touchdowns
  • McNeese's Stephon Huderson leads the Cowboys with 308 rushing yards and three touchdowns 
  • UIW's Kelechi Anayalebechi leads the Cardinal defense with 64 total tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, three pass break ups, two quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles. 
  • Anayalebechi ranks eight in the country for total tackles by the NCAA for any FCS football player 
  • McNeese's Kordell Williams leads the Cowboy defense with 56 total tackles, three tackles for loss and 0.5 sack on the season
