HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell to Houston Baptist, 66-49, in its final road contest of the regular season on Wednesday night at Sharp Gymnasium.
Houston Baptist opened the game on a 7-0 run as UIW struggled to put a basket away.
Kara Speer got the team going with a pair of free throws, and eventually
Imani Robinson made the team's first field goal from 3-point range. The Cardinals tied the game, 12-12, off a basket by
Lunden Henry just before the end of the first quarter.
UIW took the lead when Speer made a 3-pointer to get the second quarter started, but HBU promptly responded. The Huskies gained a dominating lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 29-10. The Huskies found their stride from beyond the arc, hitting five 3-pointers in the quarter to leave UIW trailing, 41-22, at the break.
The Huskies used a 13-4 stretch to extend their lead further, but the Cardinals mounted an 8-0 run off three consecutive layups cut the lead to 54-34 heading into the final period. UIW was unable to catch HBU in the final period, eventually falling, 66-49.
