Baseball heads to Tulsa to face Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to face Oral Roberts University in a three-game series on Friday-Sunday. First pitch of game one is set for Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) at J. L. Johnson Stadium.

FOLLOW THE GAMES
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE LAST WEEK
  • The Cardinals participated in the annual Alamo Irish Classic on Feb. 21-23, falling to Notre Dame (12-1) and Toledo (11-10) before closing out the tournament with a 7-3 victory over crosstown rival UTSA.
  • Luke Taggart struck out six batters in five innings in the contest against Notre Dame on Feb. 21.
  • Landon Etzel led the UIW against Toledo (Feb. 22) with a 2-for-6 outing, including two runs, two RBI, a double and a stolen base.
  • Aaron Celestino guided the Cardinals to a 7-3 victory over UTSA on Feb. 23. He retired all 14 batters he faced while recording three strikeouts in 4.2 scoreless innings.
  • UIW fell, 4-0, to No. 18 Texas A&M on Wednesday. 
 
HISTORY VS ORU
  • Oral Roberts has a 1-0 record over UIW in the all-time series.
  • The Cardinals and the Golden Eagles went head-to-head on March 19, 2014, when UIW fell, 2-0, to Oral Roberts.  
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
  • Oral Roberts holds a 4-4 record this season after falling, 6-3, to Missouri State on Tuesday.
  • Ryan Cash leads the Golden Eagles with a .313 batting average, including 10 hits and four runs.
  • ORU's senior outfielder Jordan Wiley was named Summit League Player of the Week this week after hitting .400 with three home runs in the Golden Eagles' series win against Baylor last weekend. 
 
HOT STREAKS
  • Lee Thomas is on a seven-game hitting streak and a 13-game reached-base streak dating back to the 2019 season.
  • Ridge Rogers is currently on an eight-game reached-base streak that started in 2019.
  • Grant Smith has reached base in all seven games as a Cardinal.
  • Ryan Flores and Kyle Bergeron are both on six-game reached-base streaks.
 
AROUND THE CONFERENCE
  • The Cardinals lead the Southland Conference in double plays (eight).
  • The Cardinals are second in the conference with 42 walks, a .981 fielding percentage, a .406 on-base percentage and 53 runs.
  • UIW ranks third in the SLC with four sacrifice bunts, a .383 slugging percentage and a 2.60 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • Ryan Flores is second in the conference with three sacrifice flies.
  • Drew Minter has the second-most RBI per game in the conference (1.57).
  • Aaron Celestino has the second-most victories in the conference with two wins.
 
IN THE NATION
  • UIW ranks 15th in the nation with eight double plays and eighth in the nation with 1.14 double plays per game.
  • Ryan Flores is third in the nation with three sacrifice flies.
  • Aaron Celestino has two wins to rank fourth in the nation.

The Cardinals return home to face Southland Conference opponent Stephen F. Austin in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
