Baseball falls to No. 18 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to No. 18 Texas A&M, 4-0, on Wednesday night at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
 
NOTABLES
  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Michael Garza struck out four batters through 4.0 innings pitched.
  • Freshman shortstop Grant Smith has reached base in all seven games as a Cardinal.
  • Senior designated hitter Lee Thomas extended his hitting streak to seven games and his reached-base streak to 13 games – both dating back to the 2019 season. 
  • Johnny Foral struck out Texas A&M's Zach DeLoach to hand the Aggie his first strikeout of the season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After two quick innings to start off the game, Texas A&M threatened to score in the bottom of the third. With bases loaded and two outs, Hunter Coleman came up to bat for the Aggies, but Garza shut him down with a three-pitch strikeout. 
 
Texas A&M struck first, plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. After senior left-handed pitcher Michael McElmeel allowed just one hit through scoreless fifth and sixth innings, the Aggies tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to 4-0.
 
The Aggie defense shut down the Cardinals through the final two innings to secure the 4-0 win.

The Cardinals head to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to face Oral Roberts in a three-game series on Friday-Sunday. Game one is set for Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) at J. L. Johnson Stadium.
