Cardinals make a splash on day 2 of Art Adamson Invite

 COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's swimming and diving teams made a splash on the second day of the Art Adamson Invitational on Thursday afternoon with two swimming NCAA B cut times.  
 
Senior Cassie Phillips continued to shine on the second day of the meet, setting a new program record in the 100-butterfly with a time of 53.60. With that time, she made the NCAA B cut and claimed bronze in the event.  
 
Sophomore Ximena Maria Conde swam a personal best in the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:16.92, making the NCAA B cut and coming in fourth overall.  
 
For the men, Jared Wallace came in fourth in the 100-butterfly as the event's top finisher for the Cardinals with a time of 49.15 seconds. Alvaro Ibarra finished just behind Wallace with a time of 49.30 seconds. 
 
Fernando Ruvalcaba Cruz swam a personal best in the 100-backstroke, clocking in at 49.30 seconds for a sixth-place finish.  
 
Spyros Kranias was among those who set a PR on day two. He finished in the top in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 54.95.  
 
The men's 200 medley relay squad of F. Ruvalcaba Cruz, Kraniasm Wallace and Xavier Navarro came in fourth overall. The women's 200 medley relay squad of Cristina Vergara, Mariana Ruvalcaba Cruz, Phillips and Lauren Gray tied for fifth with Texas A&M's C squad with a time of 1:43.72. 
 
The Relays 
 
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Conde, Hannah Rowley, M. Ruvalcaba Cruz and Brenda Diaz clocked in at 7:43.10 for fourth. The men's squad also claimed fourth to close out the night, starting with freshman Jorge Cardnas Reyes, followrd by F. Ruvalcaba Cuz, Robert Anaya and freshman anchor Trevor Smith.  
 
The men's squad sits in second with 635 points behind TAMU (1,229) and ahead of LSU (460). They will look to build on that lead in the final day of the meet on Friday. The women's squad is in third with 542 points and is looking to catch up to LSU's 666 points in the final day.
