Swimming and diving hosts UH and UTPB

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the season on Friday afternoon, hosting the University of Houston and University of Texas Permian Basin. The meet is set to begin with diving at noon at the Ann Barshop Natatorium. The swimming events follow the diving events.

CARDINALS AT HOME

UIW added 22 athletes to the rosters for the 2019-20 season, and will look to these student-athletes to slate initial collegiate times and scores on Friday.

The University of Houston is set to bring its women's swimming and diving team. Last time the Cardinals faced UH in Houston, UIW tallied 537.5 points. Accolades from the meet included the Cardinals taking second and third in the 400-yard Medley relay.

UTPB travels its men's and women's swimming and diving teams to San Antonio. Last time out, UIW topped the Falcons 160-59 (Nov. 3, 2018).

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH PHILLIP DAVIS

"We are really excited to get this season started! The team has been working hard and it will be nice to see them compete instead of just train.

Houston is a tough opponent that knows how to win! They are coming off another conference championship and I want to see our women take another step forward to close the gap.

UTPB is building and building! Coach Kainer always has his teams ready to go and they swim big teams all the time."

UP NEXT
The women's upcoming schedule includes traveling to Houston to face Rice University on Oct. 11-12, while the men's next time out won't be until Oct. 26, when they travel to Little Rock, Ark. to face the Little Rock Trojans and Rhodes College.
