Taylor Smith has been named a Second Team Perfect Game/Rawlings College Freshman All-American, announced the association Thursday.
Â
Smith was named the 2019 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, and was selected all-conference second team, after an outstanding season as a true freshman. He had 67 hits, 49 runs and 57 RBI to go along with a .322 batting average. Smith led the conference with 16 home runs. His 13 doubles combined with his home runs gave him a team-leading .615 slugging percentage.
Â
Defensively, Smith caught 13 steal attempts for a .629 stolen-base attempt percentage. He also turned three double plays to help UIW rank ninth in the nation and first in the league in double plays. For his efforts, Smith was also selected for the league's all-defensive team.

The Georgetown, Texas, native had four games with multiple home runs (two against Notre Dame on Feb. 23, two against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 10, two against Massachusetts on March 12, two against Central Arkansas on May 3).
