SAN ANTONIO -- University of the Incarnate Word men's diving junior
Dawson Martinez was named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Men's Diver of the Year for the second consecutive season, the association announced Tuesday.
MARTINEZ, REIGNING INCUMBENT
The San Antonio native is no stranger to the CCSA postseason honors, having earned both Men's Diver of the Year as well at the Men's Most Outstanding Diver of the Championship accolades in 2017-18.
Martinez captured the 3-Meter diving title -- for the second year in a row -- at the 2019 CCSA Championships, earning a 335.55 finals score, over 62 points above the second-place finisher. He was narrowly bumped out of first in this year's 1M competition, still scoring a composite score of 334 points.
Martinez's dominance on the season qualified him to advance to the 2019 NCAA Zone D Championships, where he made two finals appearances, in 3M (621.85 points, six dives) and Men's Platform (492.05, six dives).
HEAR FROM COACH TOMMY LAW
"Conference competition keeps getting more difficult, but Dawson is consistent. He has been the most dominant. Our goal next season will be conference records."
