SACRAMENTO, California – The 2019 NCAA Outdoor West Regional Championships came to an end today at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California. The University of the Incarnate Word was represented by two women in today's action, senior jumper
Sarea Alexander and senior hurdler
Jerica Love.
Alexander had become the first Cardinal in UIW history to qualify for outdoor nationals earlier this weekend in the long jump but came up just short in her quest to qualify in multiple events when she jumped 12.75m on her second attempt of the triple jump this afternoon. The distance put her at 16th in the region, just outside the national qualifying cutoff.
In the women's 100m hurdles,
Love got out to another phenomenal start, exploding off the blocks and into the first hurdle. She seemed destined for a berth in nationals, before the final hurdle caught on her foot, causing her to break stride. The mishap added fractions of a second onto her final time, pushing her out of national qualifying with a time of 13.68.

The Cardinals couldn't add any more events to their national championships schedule today, but UIW will still be represented in the women's long jump by
Alexander. The San Antonio native will become the first All-American outdoor track and field history, her team number will be determined in Austin, on June 6.
