NATCHITOCHES, La.-- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 7-6, in game one against Northwestern State on Friday night at Brown-Stroud Field.
NOTABLES
- Ryan Gonzalez led the Cardinals with a 3-for-3 outing that included a run, a double and two walks.
- Lee Thomas went 2-for-4 with a run, three RBI, a double and a home run.
- Bernie Martinez (8-1) suffered the loss, striking out a batter in 1.0 inning pitched.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals took an early lead in the first inning when both
Eddy Gonzalez and Thomas smacked doubles to drive in four runs, giving UIW the 4-0 advantage. The Demons answered in the bottom of the second frame, plating four runs to tie the game at 4-4.
UIW regained the 6-4 lead in the top of the third on a Thomas solo home run and a
Sean Arnold RBI triple. After two scoreless innings, NSU responded in the bottom of the sixth frame, plating two runs to tie the game at 6-6.
After a scoreless seventh inning, the Demons plated a run in the bottom of the eighth en route to a 7-6 victory over the Cardinals in game one.
