Baseball topped by ACU in game two

ABILENE, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 6-5, in a back-and-forth contest against Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon in game two of the series.
 
NOTABLES
  • Ryan Flores was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and a run. This is his 11th multi-hit game of the season.
  • With Sean Arnold's solo home run in the first inning, he is on a team-leading 27-game reached base streak.
  • Johnny Foral suffered the loss, allowing two runs on four hits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIW pounced early, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first frame. Arnold blasted a solo home run to left center in the first at-bat of the contest. Flores followed with a double down the left field line, bringing home Antonio Valdez for a 2-0 advantage.
 
Abilene Christian plated three runs over the fourth and fifth innings to jump ahead, 3-2, but the Cardinals responded. Ryan Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch in the seventh frame and Flores hit a two-RBI bomb to right field in the eighth as UIW regained the lead, 5-3.
 
Abilene Christian then scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth frame to walk off against the Cardinals with a 6-5 win.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals conclude the series against Abilene Christian with a rubber match contest on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT).
