SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team secured the series victory with a 4-3 triumph against Houston Baptist on Friday night at Daniel Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
NOTABLES
- Sean Arnold extended his reached-base streak to 34 games. He led the Cardinals with a 3-for-5 outing, including a run.
- Lee Thomas went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and a run.
- Tyler Miller earned the win, striking out nine batters in 5.1 innings pitched.
- Bernie Martinez recorded his sixth save of the season, striking out a batter in 1.0 innings pitched.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After three scoreless innings, the Huskies plated three runs to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Cardinals answered in the bottom of the fifth. A two-RBI single by
Taylor Smith and a two-run home run by Thomas gave UIW the 4-3 advantage.
The Cardinals' pitching staff struck out 10 batters in the final six innings and the defense remained strong to lead UIW to a 4-3 victory.
