THIBODAUX, Louisiana --The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team topped Nicholls, 6-4, on Friday night in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

NOTABLES
- Lee Thomas led the Cardinals with a 2-for-4 outing, including four RBI, a run, a double and a home run.
- Ryan Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and a double.
- Luke Taggart (5-3) earned the win, striking out four batters and allowing two runs in 6.1 innings pitched.
- Bernie Martinez notched his fifth save of the season, allowing two runs while striking out four in 2.2 innings pitched.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Colonels struck first, plating a run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. The Cardinals responded in the top of the fourth when Thomas hit a three-run home run to give UIW the 3-1 advantage.

After two more scoreless innings, the Colonels plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 3-2, in favor of UIW. The Cardinals answered in the top of the eighth, scoring three to take a 6-2 lead. on a R. Gonzalez hit a RBI single, E. Gonzalez scored a run on an error, and a Thomas smacked a RBI double. The Colonels responded in the bottom of the frame, plating two runs, but the Cardinals secured the 6-4 win.
