HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 10-4, to Sam Houston State on Friday night at Don Sanders Baseball Stadium in game one of the three-game series.
NOTABLES
- Sean Arnold extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
- Lee Thomas had a 2-for-4 outing with two RBI and a double, while Antonio Valdez went 2-for-4 with a run.
- Luke Taggart suffered the loss, throwing three strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearkats opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, plating four runs to take a 4-0 lead. SHSU scattered five more runs across the third and fourth frames, extending its advantage to 9-0.
In the top of the sixth,
Sean Arnold scored on a
Ryan Flores single to left center and the Cardinals made the score 9-1. The Bearkats added another run in the bottom of the frame to give them a 10-1 advantage after six innings.
The Cardinals scored three more runs in the top of the eighth -- including a
Lee Thomas two-RBI double and a
Ridge Rogers RBI ground out -- but the rally fell short and the Bearkats secured the 10-4 victory.
