SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team fought through regulation but ultimately fell in overtime, 2-1, to Northwestern State University in Sunday's match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half of play saw the Cardinals come out with an aggressive defensive strategy. Northwestern State nabbed an early goal in the ninth minute, the only scoring play of the period, to end the first half with a Lady Demon 1-0 advantage.
In the second half UIW increased the momentum brought in the first, tallying 10 of 11 total shots in the last period of regulation alone.
The 75th minute gave
Keeley Ayala her time to shine again as she stepped up to the line for a penalty kick, which found the back of the net to tie up the score 1-1. This penalty kick goal marked number five on the season for the Cardinals taken by Ayala.
Overtime play was ultimately concluded by way of a NSU goal, leaving the score 2-1.
Cailey Croson totaled four clutch saves on the match, and has only allowed two goals in five games of conference play.
