HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half of regulation play saw the Cardinals putting in work to deny all UCA advances. Possession was mostly controlled by UIW's offensive line, which put off six shots with three on goal. On the game UIW tallied 17 shots (eight on goal).
Tonight's match marked goalkeeper
Cailey Croson's fourth consecutive shutout. She amassed fives saves on the night, including multiple impressive saves in one-on-one situations.
In the second period, the Cardinals were unsatisfied leaving the scoreboard blank and found the back of the net in the 78th minute. Ayala's cross from the right side of UCA's box landed perfectly in Hanson's path, allowing Hanson to flick the ball into the net. The Cardinals advanced the score to 1-0.
Ayala got her own chance in a scoring play with a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. This goal secured the Cardinals 2-0 win over Central Arkansas. Ayala has taken, and scored, all four of UIW's penalty kick goals.
