SAN ANTONIO – The University of Incarnate Word volleyball finished their four-game home stand with a loss to Southeastern Louisiana, 3-0, on Saturday morning.
 
NOTABLES

• Julia Monday led the team with 11 kills and also added an ace.
• Pilar Gonzaba had success serving as she had a game-high three aces.
• Carissa McGarity played an efficient game as she had seven kills on .545 attack percentage; she also added two blocks (one solo and two assisted).

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (24-26) | UIW was in the driver's seat for most of the set as they were one point away from taking the set, 24-20, but the Lady Lions made a strong push at the end to steal the set. Monday was leading the team's attack as she had five kills in the set. The Cardinals gave away four points on service errors which allowed SLU to stick around.
 
SET 2 (14-25) | After a tough set one loss, the Cardinals weren't able to shake it as Southeastern Louisiana was able to take set two. UIW was led by Monday's three kills with McGarity and Cameron Taylor also chipping in two kills each.
 
SET 3 (22-25) | Set three required the team to show their character and fight back from an early lead, and that's what they did. The Cardinals fell behind 15-9 but were able to battle back to cut the score to 19-18 after a laser shot by Monday. Although they clawed their way back into contention, they ran out of steam at the end. Monday again led the team in kills with three with McGarity and Taylor right before her with two again.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals travel to Beaumont, Texas to play at Lamar next Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. (CT) game. After Lamar, UIW is on the road again at McNeese on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
