SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team hosts Stephen F. Austin for a 1 p.m. CT match on Oct. 27. Sunday's game will be preceded by Senior Day recognition for the Cardinals, which will begin at noon.
THE GAME
THE CARDINALS
UIW comes into Senior Day off a key 3-2 win in the second overtime over Sam Houston State University on Friday. Two early goals in the first period by
Hannah Walsh and
Taylor Husfeld set up UIW's scoring lead for the majority of the match, until a late regulation goal by SHSU led the game into overtime. The first 10 minutes of extra time were scoreless as UIW defended the net with two
Cailey Croson saves, leading to OT2.
The golden goal that secured the win for the Cardinals occurred in the 102nd minute as a cleared ball from a scuffle outside the Bearkat box opened
Keeley Ayala up to boot it and find the back of the net.
The Cardinals ended the match with nine shots (four on frame), while goalkeeper Croson ended the night with eight total saves.
SCOPING THE SFA LADYJACKS
The Ladyjacks enter the game on Sunday following a tough 1-0 loss to Abilene Christian in the second overtime.
In this endurance match of a game, SFA goalkeeper Madeline Talbot racked up 18 saves, which was not only a career best but notched as the most saves by a goalkeeper in a single game in all of NCAA Division I play in the 2019 season. Talbot faced 36 shots on the match with 19 on frame.
SFA's offensive line pushed and racked up 12 shots (eight on target) towards Abilene Christian's defensive force. The Ladyjacks currently hold a 3-6 record in SLC play on the season.
