THIBODAUX, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team fell on the road to Nicholls after five sets on Saturday morning at Stopher Gym.
NOTABLES
- Julia Monday led the team with a season-high 23 kills (.242 attack percentage) and a team-best 21 digs.
- Bethany Clapp, who leads the team in kills this season, added 15 kills (.324 attack percentage).
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (21-25) | The Cardinals got a lead early on in the set, but the Colonels were quick to answer, tying the game at 5-5. The teams fought point for point with 12 ties in the set. When the score reached 21-21, Nicholls went on a 4-0 run off of an ace, a kill and a Cardinal attacking error to take the set.
SETS 2 (26-24) AND 3 (19-25) | Nicholls got on the board early to take a dominating lead, but the Cardinals answered with a 7-0 run to cut the advantage to 10-9. The Colonels led for most of the set, but UIW answered. A kill by Clapp tied the game 24-24. That was followed by a Nicholls attacking error and another kill by Clapp to secure the set for the Cardinals. Nicholls led the entire third set to take a 2-1 match advantage.
SETS 4 (25-14) AND 5 (8-15) | UIW won the fourth set, taking an early lead and never looking back. The Cardinals got on the board first in the final set, but ultimately dropped the set when the Colonels managed to tie the game and take the lead for the remainder of the set.

The Cardinals are back at the McDermott Center for a four-game homestand starting with the match against Houston Baptist on Thursday, Oct. 17. The match is slated to start at 6 p.m. (CT).
