HOUSTON -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team split a pair of duals to kick off the 2019 season, falling to Rice (0-7) but defeating Prairie View A&M (7-0) on Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.
 
DOUBLES
After falling to Rice, the Cardinals found a rhythm against the Panthers. The duo of Paco Bendana and Caleb Dyer topped PVAMU's Yushikata and Lewis, 6-2, while Dennis Boisseau and Zachary Vander Heiden bested Ugarteche and Suico, also by a score of 6-2.
 
SINGLES
After earning the doubles point, the Cardinals swept the singles matches. Gabriel Evans defeated Lawrence (6-2, 6-2) on court one. On court two, Boisseau secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Yushikata, while Sebastian Mortier won (6-0, 6-2) against Suico on court four.
 
Oliver Valentinsson topped Lewis 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 on court five and Dyer had a 6-2, 6-2 win against Ugarteche on court six.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals open the home season on Friday, taking on Our Lady of the Lake at the Mabry Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. (CT).
