UIW battles through double overtime, ties SLU 1-1

SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team tied 1-1 in Sunday morning's match against Southeastern Louisiana at Benson Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals began the match with aggressive offense, pushing through the Lady Lions' defense. A free kick in the 33rd minute -- taken by Gio Olivieri -- was blocked and bounced back out, but Olivieri gathered the ball and found the back of the net for the first goal of the match.

Emani Stewart led the offensive charge with five of UIW's 21 total shots. The Cardinals entered the half up 1-0.

An open goal situation led to Southeastern Louisiana's only goal in regulation. Junior goalkeeper Katrina Buck had several clutch saves to protect UIW's net.

The Cardinals kept up their intensity throughout the two overtime periods, but ultimately left the match tied 1-1.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana, to face Northwestern State on the Sept. 28. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. (CT).
